This is my first post as I have only just found this superb Forum. I have always been interested in War Memorials, they can so often say so much about an area and it was all that my Mother and Grandparents had to remember a Brother & Son lost in Burma at the Battle of Kohima.
I live in the northern Highlands, in the Parish of Kilmuir & Logie Easter, where we have two churches and both have their own War Memorial. As a mark of respect and for future generations I am planning on gathering information and a little background on each name on each Memorial.
I am looking forward to sharing my journey with you and being amongst others that share my feelings. _________________ LizzieRB

Welcome to the forum LizzieRB
There are often memorials to parishioners or individuals inside churches and these are more difficult for us to get (don't forget any memorial furniture). So if there are any you have access to which are not on the forum, then we look forward to seeing them.

Lizzie
Welcome to the forum. Nice to see someone from Easter Ross on the forum.
I'm sure you'll enjoy having a look round to see which memorials we have in your area.
Cheers

Good morning,
Thank you for your warm welcome, I am so thrilled that this forum exists because I now feel that I am not alone in my enjoyment and wonder of War Memorials.
The Memorial in Kilmuir is a wooden plaque (which I will photograph and download) and it reads as follows:
The Great War 1914-1918
To the glory of God and in honoured memory of the men of this Church who laid down their lives for their Country.
Pte James Wood - R.F.A.
Pte Charles Allan - Rifle Brigade
Sgt Ewan MacKenzie - Seaforth Highlanders
Sgt John Fraser - Seaforth Highlanders
Sgt William Wass - Seaforth Highlanders
Pte Hugh Fraser - Seaforth Highlanders
Pte David Mackay - Seaforth Highlanders
Sgt Thomas Ross - Cameron Highlanders
Pte James Macleod - Cameron Highlanders
Sgt David Black - Gordon Highlanders
L.Cpl John Macleod - Gordon Highlanders
Lt Stuart Teggart - Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders
Pte James Forbes - Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders
Capt John Teggart - R.A.M.C.
I am still to fully check the names against those on the War Memorial which is located close to the Church, but an initial quick looks shows that Lt Stuart Teggart & Capt John Teggart are not shown on there. Does anyone have any idea why that maybe.
Very briefly, but to give a little history, it was my intention to pick one name from the Church memorial and do a little research so that the details could be read out at the Rememberance Day Service, I picked Capt John Teggart and it has just snowballed from there. The Teggarts were twin brothers both killed in WWI, the real mystery is that to date I can find no connection at all to the Church, but I will keep digging.
All this research has just hightened my interest and I now intend to do a piece on all the names.
Again, thanks for the welcome and for all the help that I am so sure that you are going to be. _________________ LizzieRB

John Teggart is also commemorated on this memorial in St Giles cathedral (but not by name)
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=755 He will also be commemorated in the RAMC roll of honour in Westminster Cathedral.
Both men are commemorated on CWGC but only Stuart is on SNWM.
We have no church memorials at all from your area so any you can find (including individual memorials) will be very welcome.
