As part of the Clyne Heritage Society's winter lecture series I am giving a talk on the local war memorial.

Morag Sutherland gave a talk on the Western Front last month and discussed some of those named on the memorial, so rather than discuss the names I am going to discuss the memorial itself as well as some other local memorials.

It is on Thursday 19th November at 19:30 in the Community Centre in Brora.

Regards

Adam

This talk went down well. I had an audience of about 60 and there were plenty of questions afterwards. I only remember being stumped once and that was 'How much did the memorial cost?' Hopefully we'll be able to find that out in the near future.

It seemed to generate lots of interest amongst the Society members and I hope it will stimulate some local research into the memorial itself and not just on those listed on it.

If nothing else it gave me a renewed interest in my local* memorial and a sense of pride in a unique piece of Scots-baronial architecture. I hope those who attended the talk can look at it in a new light.

Many thanks to any forum members who were there on the night.

Regards

Adam

*it was my local memorial when I was growing up. It is now 250 miles away.

Well done. That's a very good size audience.

Thanks Derek. I was helped in the numbers by Nick Lindsay putting posters up everywhere in the village and getting a plug in the local paper the week before the talk.

I must admit to having nerves before the talk. It made it worse because I knew so many faces in the audience. I don't think it would have been quite so daunting for me if I had been a stranger.

I'm glad I did it though, it certainly felt good after doing it.

Cheers

Adam

But that's the essence of it.

YOU WERE NOT A STRANGER. And the names are REAL to you.

Well done again.
