On both the Stirling & Dunblane & Lecropt W.M's. is commemorated - Driver William McArthur.
The following piece is extracted from the newspaper;
THE STRATHEARN HERALD: 14.07.1917
DUNBLANE CASUALTY
Driver William M'Arthur, Royal Field Artillery, is reported killed in action. He is a son of Mr Duncan M'Arthuur, Stirling, formerly employed at Glassingall Gardens, and before enlisting was employed with Mr James Cameron, joiner, Dunblane.
I've had a look but am struggling - fresh eyes please?! |

Tried SNWM & CWGC for McArthur, MacArthur (none) and Arthur but nothing comes close to that name, unit and a death before July 1917.

Mark
I have been searching for him but to no avail. No one found with the initials WM in RFA or RGA on CWGC to suit died in 1917.
I am begining to wonder if the paper detail might be inaccurate.
The only reference I can find to a Wm McArthur, Dvr, RFA died overseas is 589 who died in August 1918.
I suspect your Dunblane RFA man may not be the Wm McArthur listed at Stirling. The man below is shown as born, and enlisted, there. He was residing at Queen St, Stirling in Jan 1915.
Name: McARTHUR, WILLIAM
Initials: W
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
Unit Text: 11th Bn.
Date of Death: 27/09/1915
Service No: S/7210
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 125 to 127.
