UKNIWM Ref: Not listed

Located in the entrance of Penninghame Parish Church at OS Map Ref NX 410 654

The memorial was moved at some time in the past from St John’s church, just a few yards along to Penninghame Parish Church on the closure of the former. The former St John’s church is now Newton Stewart museum.

Wigtownshire Free Press (18/10/1917): Official intimation has been received by Mr and Mrs W Kennedy, Burnside Cottage, Garlieston, that their son, Private John Kennedy, Royal Scots, was killed on September 14th. Private Kennedy joined the Army in March this year and, before enlisting, was employed as a clerk in the goods office at Newton Stewart Railway Station, where he was held in high esteem. His brother, Pte R Kennedy, is in active service in France.
