Many thanks to Hugh and Ken Dalziel for posting this memorial. It's nice to see a memorial recording those who served as well as those who died. It would be interesting to get some background information on the erection of this memorial.

From Mark's post note that all three McLellan brothers have no known grave.

Thanks Adam, I will try and get some of the other island memorials for the site.

From what I am told the previous owner of the Island would not allow a memorial on Eigg. I will seek clarification on this.

Archibald MacLellan was one of eleven men lost whilst serving on ss MANGARA official number 96092 built in 1889 for SS Mangara Co Ltd (Maclay & McIntyre), Glasgow.

28.7.1915 Torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea 1/4 mile E. from Sizewell Buoy, Aldeburgh by German submarine UB 16 whilst on a voyage from Bilbao to Tees with a cargo of iron ore.

Duncan Campbel was one of nine men (2 crew, 4 gunners, 3 passengers) lost whilst serving on ss EMPIRE FLORIZEL official number 169503 built in 1943 for the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT).

21.7.43 Bombed and sunk off Augusta, Sicily.

Both of them have no grave but the sea.
