As we approach our 25,000th post and out two year anniversary it's perhaps worth going back to some of our old topics we started when we were the humble Scottish War Memorial Discussion Forum.

I'm sure no topic out there is too old to be revisited.

Cheers

Adam

They're coming in thick and fast...

No harm in us revisiting old topics though, whatever the number.

Cheers

As we have now got over 3,000 memorials on the forum and are fast approaching our 30,000th post I thought I'd bump this back up to the top and mention revisiting old topics again.

Cheers

Over 3,000 memorials is great news: together, we have achieved something which deserves to be long-lasting and a useful resource in years to come. It therefore worries me to think that if Photobucket went belly-up, or one of the major contributors to the forum closed their account, we would lose a significant portion of the site. Has anyone thought of a way to ensure the preservation of the thousands of images we have?

This is something we have discussed in the past, but never really come to an agreement about.

We're currently discussing our options for a "worst-case" scenario. Don't worry, it's in hand.

David
I raised this subject quite some time ago and had a similar response.
In my own situation I host a large number of images on this Forum, and others. How can you possibly access and display these images, the same would be true for many others on Photobucket, etc, if the account was closed or the images removed?
Even if you have downloaded them all you could not use them on this site.

I'm not about to go into detailed specifics on what we have in mind for creating a "backup" of the data here.

I will admit in the past we adopted a bit of a "head in the sand" approach, ignoring the possibility and hoping it never happened. I am now of the opinion that we need a contingency plan, and the admin and moderators are discussing this at the moment.

This is not something that members need to concern themselves with.
