Located in the local cemetery, this is one of the most religious looking memorials I've seen.

Very religeous. I don't think I've ever seen another war memorial with the crucifixion on it.

The cross shaft with its tree of life carving is very similar to the red sandstone cross at Shandon near Helensburgh. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same sculptor.

Buried in this cemetery but not listed on the memorial is James Hutton.

(Glasgow Herald 19th January 1920)
"Died at Braehead, Douglas, 16th last, from ilness contracted on service, James Hutton, late Royal Scots, and piper.
H.L.L. Military funeral at Douglas, Tuesday 1pm.

In Douglas St. Bride's churchyard is this grave.

[Commonwealth war grave] 15233 Private C Park, The Cameronians (Sco. Rif.) 16th September 1918 age 38.

Henry Lowe who died in WW2 is commemorated on the family stone in the new section of Douglas Cemetery.

V. In memory of Nathaniel Veitch beloved husband of Agnes Newton who died 24th Sept 1947 aged 73 years; also their dear grandson Harry Lowe died of wounds in France 6th June 1940 aged 20 years; the above Agnes Newton died 18th April 1954 aged 78 years; their daughter Janet Murray Lowe died 5th Dec 1981 aged 83 years. ‘Peace perfect peace’ [open book] In memory of Nancy Lowe died 8.5.2004 aged 77, beloved wife of Nathaniel (Beecher) died 7.9.2009 aged 86. Forever loved.
