Hope this is in the right place to post this?

I work as a nurse in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and I've worked in several hospitals in the area and have never seen a Memorial or Roll of Honour in the hospitals. I have been asking round my colleagues who have worked there longer than me, and they can't think of any either. But I'm sure there must be. One friend said she remembers something at the top of the stairs at Craig House (now part of the Napier University Campus).

Do any of the forum members know?

The Elsie Inglis hospital was itself a memorial but I think that has gone now?

In the past I have found hospital memorials either in the entrance or in the chapel

The Elsie Inglis hospital buildings are still there but have been converted to flats. There are memorial gates which I'm sure I've posted.

The Western General had a Polish wing during the war and there used to be a plaque there, I don't know if it still exists. They had Polish doctors training at Edinburgh University and working at the Western. The Padaruski Wing I think it was called. There is a plaque somewhere at the University buildings at Teviot where the doctors trained.

Other than that I don't know of any. Doctors who died would be remebered by the Universities where they trained. I take it quite a few staff would have served in the RAMC and various Nursing units and given that most organisations had memorials or rolls created after the wars I'd be surprised if hospitals didn't join in and create them too.

The University has the archives of Lothian Health Services in the old Deaconess Hospital buildings at the Pleasance so if there are any records surviving about rolls they would have them.

Regards

Adam
