A William McLellan appears on the Logielmond War Memorial under Scots Guards;

This is the newspaper extract;

THE STRATHEARN HERALD: 04.10.1915
LOGIEALMOND MAN KILLED

Private William M’Lellan, London Regiment, a native of Logiealmond, has been killed in action. Private M’Lellan enlisted in the Royal Scots in 1914, and was later transferred to the London Regiment. He was 22 years of age, and in civil life was employed at Craigton Quarry, Logiealmond. Deceased, who was well-known in cricket and football circles in Logiealmond and Methven, was an exceptionally tall soldier, standing 6 feet 4 inches in his socks.

I've tried to identify him, from various sources, without success.

I checked the MIC's on Ancestry - only one William McLellan for Scots Guards (No. 10741). Action taken states 'Deserted' ?

despite all my usual tricks I cannot find any trace in MIC, CWGC or SNWM (tried all 3 regiments and variations on surname)

GROS shows two men of that name died in 1915. SNWM only lists one of them

There is one William McLellan in Logiealmond in the 1901 census. He is age 7, born Inverness, residing with Grandparents (Donald & Annie McLellan).

Let me know if you want me to list the full details.

aye, saw both of them, one is South Lancs Regt, not on SNWM and no link to Scotland on CWGC, the other was a Gordon Highlander from Tarbrax Midlothian.

The man we are looking for has links to Logiealmond and is Scots Guards, or alternatively from the other source Royal Scots/London Regiment.

I think it most unlikely that the regiment is wrong from both sources and there is no link on CWGC or SNWM to Logiealmond.

I think the most likely are one of the following:

1. He served under a different name
or
2. He died after discharge from a non war related cause and is therefore not listed on CWGC (not especially likely that early in the war, but you never know)
