A book of remembrance, the ship's bell and a handsome memorial in the cathedral.

A further exhibition on the sinking of HMS Royal Oak can be found on the shores of Scapa Flow, outside the Kirkwall Coastguard Station.

Part of the listings of casualties, numbering 833


The wreck-buoy, marking the spot where the wreck of Royal Oak lies. Each year, on October 14th, survivors of the sinking return to cast a wreath on the sea, and a diver goes down to affix a white ensign to the wreck.

Scottish Televison carried a programme about the sinking of Royal Oak 13th Oct. It'll be on their Iplayer thing.
