I have the First world War Roll of Honour for Glasgow, and am more than happy to do lookups for any forum member.

It contains name, rank, regiment and address.

Regards,

David

Only one Archibald Ferguson, and there's no more information above what you already have. Sapper, Royal Engineers, 210 Berkeley Street.

David

Dave,

I believe my great uncle, Henry Gilchrist was killed at the Battle of Loos Sept. 25, 1915. That is the only Henry Gilchrist I could locate from Glasgow who was killed during WWI. His service number was 18990. Could you find out his address or his parents name for me from the Glasgow Roll of Honour?

Thanks,

Andrew Peters

Henry Gilchrist is listed as a Private in the Highland Light Infantry, and his address is given as 106 Florence Street.

He is the only Gilchrist listed at that address.

I hope the information is of some use.

Regards,

David

Thank you, that was the confirmation I was looking for, my mother was born and raised in Glasgow and moved to Canada after WWII her memory is starting to slip. 106 Florence Street matches with the 1911 census record I obtained. I am a teacher in Canada and am leading a school trip in June of 2012 to France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The focus of the trip is Canada's role in both world wars. I will definitely be making a stop at the Loss Memorial on the way to Vimy from Ypres. Thanks again. If there is anything I can do help you guys in any way let me know.

Hi David,

In the Stewartry RoH there is a Gunner Houston (no given name stated), Royal Field Artillery listed as living at 92 Bedford Street, Glasgow. Perhaps this address would be post-war - would you mind checking for Houstons who served with the RFA, please? There may be a Sgt George R, but I was wondering if there were others.

Thank you,

Stuart

No Houstons listed in the RFA, I'm afraid.
