Location is the Isle of Whithorn church beside the beach/harbour at OS Map Ref NX 478 364.
The two memorials in this church share the honour of being the southernmost war memorials in Scotland.
Andrew Stewart was the Minister of Isle of Whithorn church but was commissioned as an infantry officer.

2nd Lt. Stewart's Military Cross citation (London Gazette: 22nd March 1918):
T./2nd Lt. Andrew Stewart, att'd North'd Fus.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Under heavy machine-gun fire he crawled up to within five yards of an enemy strong point and opened fire with a Lewis gun to cover his platoon's attack on the strong point.

Andrew's brother, T.B. Stewart lived in Hawick around the Great War period.

Andrew enlisted in the Royal Naval Division in December 1915 as Ordinary Seaman (Z/7633) and was posted to Blandford Camp in Dorset. A year later, and by now a Leading Seaman, he applied for a commission and, after attending Officer Training at Fermoy in Co. Cork, he was appointed as a 2nd Lt. in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 26 April 1917.
