There is a framed ROH to the Dalkeith District Ancient Order of Foresters. Location not known but possibly in the care of the Dalkeith History Society.

Yes, this is in the care of the History Society. I don't really want to say where on a public forum but needless to say it is in safe hands and accessible for those who are interested. I photographed it a few years back and it is on the Scran website. |

A few years back I attempted to track down a memorial I had seen a very poor photograph of. It was made to commemorate the Penicuik Free Gardeners. I had absolutely no luck.
Today I spoke to the SNP councillor from Penicuik and she tells me that it is believed to be in a Masonic Lodge in Glasgow. I am awaiting more details and will post here when I get them. |

Spotted this while researching the Rev W J Falside who was minister at Howgate United Free Church.

A memorial plaque is to be erected remembering those from the Howgate area who died in World War One and World War Two.
Those behind the village’s first public war memorial are urging relatives of the men named on it to attend the unveiling ceremony at Howgate Kirk on March 20 at 11am.Local historian Rosemary Marwick spearheaded the two-year research into the names on the plaque, which was made by local sculptor Alan Herriot. She said: “We thought it would be a pity to have this but not let all the families know. There may be relatives of these men that might like to attend. It’s important. “There is a framed roll of honour with the names of all the Howgate men who went to war, those that died are marked on it. That was in Howgate Church. And Wellington School had a huge mural of all the former pupils who died in war. “But this will be the first memorial on public display. It’s unusual, as most little villages have a memorial.
”Names: WW1– Reverend WJ Falside, David Brown, Joseph Brown, James Campbell, Thomas E Pendrich, Andrew Radcliffe, James Sinclair. WW2 – Robert Brown, William Forrest, Robert Glasgow, Alex Glasgow, William Melrose. _________________ Ken |
