This is a very good website with lots of information about the history of Scotland's mining communities.
A lot of work has gone into the webpages about the war memorials. Most are in Lanarkshire but there are also some in Fife and other counties. Most of them have photos and a lot have transcriptions:

This was one of the first links posted on the forum but I just thought I'd update this. There are many reasons to visting this website, it's well worth a look even if you are not interested in mining because it contains so much more than that about some Scottish communities, some of them lost forever.
On their war memorials page it says this...
We are no longer actively photographing or transcribing memorials although we may add a few more as time permits. If you are interested in war memorials in other areas, visit the Scottish War Memorials Project
and it links to this forum.

Sorry to drag up an old post but we moved our URL a few years back so you can now find the site here:
http://www.scottishmining.co.uk
But we still have the link to this site for all things war memorial-related

Many thanks for the updates today. Good to see the mining website still going strong.
Please feel free to go back to old threads and bring them back to the top again.
Thanks too for the update in the Lest Scotland Forgets thread. Your input is much appreciated and don't feel you shouldn't contribute just because you haven't posted as much as others.
All views from all our members are welcome.
Kind regards

I was in Kirkconnel recently and photographed a miners memorial to those who died in Fauldhead and Sanquhar collieries. Off topic for this forum but if anyone would like the photos PM me with your email address.
