This is on my list of favourite memorials. I'm not sure what it is, maybe something to do with the figure. You don't get many figures of 2nd World War soldiers on memorials.

I was hoping you would post this one. Figures in battledress are rare on Scottish war memorials. Not counting the modern 51st Div memorials with pipers I can only think of two others. The Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge and the Commercial Bank of Scotland WW2 Memorial now at Gogarburn (a relief carving, not a statue).
This is a fine memorial and it's a pity the other RSF statue in Ayr isn't nearer it.
The RSF have a plaque in St Giles High Kirk in Edinburgh for their Great War memorial but I'm guessing they have one in Ayr as well. Does anyone know where it is?
