Is this project aware that the Imperial War Museum is running a similar project to compile a database of war memorials throughout the UK? I happened to come across their web page first and so I downloaded their reporting form and have submitted a number of memorials which I have recorded from Strachur, Furnace, Greenock, Rothesay and New Lanark. I did this becaue I am an ex-serviceman and a member of the British legion: I thought it was a worthwhile thing to do. I would be pleased to share the information and images that I have collected if they would be interesting to your members. How do I go about it? _________________ Graham Thomas |

Welcome to the forum. We are already aware of the Imperial War memorial database. You will find it referred to the forum as the UKNIWM (UK National Inventory of War Memorials). Strictly speaking we are running a slightly different project since they don't show photographs of the memorials or show research on any names.
They are also aware of our forum and quite of the few of our members here have contacted the UKNIWM at various times with extra information. In fact one of our members, Spoons, is sorting out the mess of all the entries for St Giles in Edinburgh for them.
We'd be delighted to have any extra information you can add on any war memorials you've been to.
Before you do anything more you should have a good look through some of the entries on the forum to see if any of the memorials you have been to have already been posted. Then you should have a look at the other topics within this section to see the tips for getting your photos on the forum.
You should also note the '5 days /5 posts' rule which restricts what new members can post for a short period.
All the information you should need is on the forum but if you need any more please get in touch with one of the Moderators.
Regards
Adam |

Hi Graham and welcome.
I send all my photos and info on to UKNIWM but as Adam said, they have no photos or transcription of names available online and they are not interested in research on individuals at all. Many of our posts have photos and details of the men themselves. We also include covenanter memorials and have information on how to find and get to some of our less accessible memorials, and links where individuals are on 2 or more memorials.
If you look at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2469&highlight= you will see what I mean.
To be honest, if this forum did not exist then I probably would not be collecting and sending the information on to UKNIWM either so we all benefit.
I look forward to any additional information you are able to add to our existing post (plus any new posts of course).
