The memorial was unveiled in June 1921 (seem to have misplaced the detail for the moment)

Nothing on the memorial for WW2. Have checked with the church and nothing inside either.

DelBoy - you're right, I've had quite a hunt for this chap too. Doesn't even seem to exist on any census I've looked through or births/marriages/deaths. I came to the conclusion this was an alias.

I never picked up on this back in 2010. The Dalyell family lived at House of the Binns, and one of the Tams raised the Scots Greys in 1681.

That might be a red herring. There is a place called Binn Cottages (or Binn Farm Cottages) at Kinfauns which is about 2 mile from St Madoes.

It has been mentioned on the forum before: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5061 but Kinfauns has its own war memorial and no-one serving in the Scots Greys is listed there: http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1425
