Outside the cathedral, this is a memorial to 200 covenanters who lost their lives in a shipwreck on the Deerness coast in 1679. They had been captured after the Battle of Bothwell Brig.

If there was a photograph of the inscription this could be registered with the WMR as a war memorial.
