Fort Augustus - Inverness District
The Fort Augustus war memorial is a very attractive shrine set into the village hall and is constructed with blue-grey (calicoe?) rustic granit blocks, while the shrine and quoins are of a dressed sandstone.

UKNIWM Ref: 5912
OS Map ref: NH380093, located on the northern bank of the Caledonian Canal below the locks.

I believe that this memorial has been wrongly listed twice on the UKNIWM database as it also appears as the FORT AUGUSTUS ABBEY MEMORIAL HALL, UKNIWM Ref: 5904
However, the Abbey is a distance from this location which is definately a village hall.

There is a huge difference in the colours in the photographs posted by Derek above and my own!
My photographs were taken in the mid 90's with a fairly high quality Pentax camera. I often used 200 speed film, and sometimes even 400 speed because I was often taking photographs of bronze indoors or in dull conditions and didn't want the flash to spoil them. Unfortunately these high speed films could result in weak colours. It just shows you can't trust the camera...which is probably why the Imperial War Museum always asked for black and white photography.

Whilst returning up The Great Glen from Lochaber yesterday; the individual in the car was aware that I was photographing the Memorial (I was almost leaning on his bonnet!) but he refused to move!

WMR 5912 has now been deleted, and 5904 has been re-named. That report also has a suite of photographs with it.
