I have just moved this from the churches to civic section. Although it is inside the church this is the Collace Parish Memorial commemorating all from the district who fell.

BLAIRGOWRIE ADVERTISER: 28.06.1919

COLLACE WAR MEMORIAL

Last Sunday forenoon an interesting and solemn ceremony was witnesses in Collace Parish Church, namely, the unveiling of a War Memorial for the 13 soldiers from this parish and district who made the supreme sacrifice. Gifted by the late Mr Bernard of Dunsinnan, the memorial took the form of a Sicilian marble slab (the works of Messrs Beveridge, Perth), built into the interior south wall of the church. At the top of the stone occur the Christian monogram I.H.S., and the inscription - “In memory of those who fell in the Great War between August 4th, 1914, and November 11th, 1918”. Then come the following names in black lettering:- George Balfour, 2nd Seaforths, Kinrossie; John Ross brown, Royal Scots, M.G.C., Legertlaw; Robert Coupar, 4/5th Black Watch, Croftanrigh; Alexander Dickson, 1/7th Black Watch, Kinrossie; John Doig, 10th Battalion Canadians, Dunsinnan; Andrew Ferguson, 1/6th Black Watch, Collace; Duncan Ferguson, 3/6th Black Watch, Collace; John Martin, 4/5th Black Watch, Burngrange; Hector M’Lean, 6th Black Watch, Dunsinnan; James Rattray, 2nd Royal Scots, Dunsinnan; John Slidders, 3rd Royal Scots, Redstone; Alexander Smith, 2/6th Black Watch, Lawton Cottages; William Thom, 6th Black Watch, Saucher. Below the names is the appropriate verse:- “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life”. Rev. ii. 10.
The service was largely attended by the two congregations of Kinrossie U.F. Church and Collace Parish Church. The first part of the service was conducted by Rev. John Macpherson, Balbeggie, who gave a suitable address to children on “Courage”, based upon the example of Daniel. Rev. G. Veitch gave the Dedication prayer, and preached the Sermon on “Sacrifice”, his text being taken from Genesis xxii., 16 and 17, under the three heads - the duty, the beauty, and the reward of sacrifice. He then called upon Mr Macduff of Bonhard, an old friend of Mr Bernard, to unveil the memorial.
After unveiling the memorial, which was covered with the Union Flag, and reading the names, Mr Macduff said that he counted it an honour and privilege to do so. The whole circumstances were very pathetic, because the kind donor had not himself been spared to see this day. Two things in life of their departed friend were noticeable - first, his courtliness, and, second, his kindness and geniality. The longer they knew him, the more he gained upon their esteem and affection. The monument he said, was meant to keep in mind the brave example of 13 men from that parish who made the supreme sacrifice. Let not these who had lost their brave sons be too much dejected or cast down. We must not merely think of them, as lying in some lonely or forgotten grave on the far-away field of battle, but as having entered upon a higher and better life. When we think of our loss, let us also think of their great gain.

Let us meet it, then, with patience,
Not in terror or in fear;
Though our hearts are bleeding yonder,
Let our souls to steadfast here
.

A very solemn and impressive service was closed by the favourite hymn, “For all the saints who from their labours rest”, followed by the National Anthem.
