This memorial is erected inside Crieff Parish Church. It is not, however, original to the building. I've looked for an unveiling report and checked the names which appear a 'mixed bag'. It may be from the former Crieff Free Church but I'm not sure;

It looks like it is a church memorial but it doesn't say it is for a congregation so don't rule it out as coming from somewhere else. Although the inscription is Biblical I've seen it used on civic and unit memorials so it doesn't necessarily point to this being a church memorial either.

If it is a church memorial then the fact that there is a Second World War name listed means the church did not close until at least after 1945 (and probably later)

The UF and Church of Scotland merged in the late 1920s although that's not to say the churches would have to merge straight away. St George's West church in Edinburgh only recently merged with it's pre-1848 established namesake. It had avoided any mergers for over 150 years. In fact when the Established St George's had to leave their church in the 1960s they merged with St Andrew's on George Street rather than join their ex-UF equivalent round the corner.

It's also worth pointing out that South Leith Parish Church has church war memorial plaques for churches that didn't merge with South Leith or were even Church of Scotland. The plaques have been placed in South Leith pc to ensure the plaques remained in a Protestant church in Leith when the churches closed or relocated to the outskirts of town.

Sorry there's no clues about the memorial itself but I'd say don't just focus on former Church of Scotland buildings.

A good point. As you can see too - Harold Robinson has been added later, and I can't 'see' a match for him on CWGC.
David Mudie is not listed on the Crieff Parish Memorial.

Thanks for that information. Harold Robinson's name was an add-on but not sure when this was done. I've transcribed the unveiling so will have a look in more detail and see what it says.
