On 11th May 1950, Lincoln B2 serial SX957 of 148 Sqn was taking part in a fighter affiliation exercise. 12 Miles North East of RAF Fayid a Vampire carried out a head on attack against the aircraft but failed to pull away and they were involved in a head on collision.
