Pat Anderson (keptie) has identified Captain G. J. W. Moncreiff, RASC as a potential non-comm. He is named on the WW2 section of the memorial in the New Club in Edinburgh (which Morag managed to photograph).

It is really quite unusual to find a case from the Second War but Pat had tracked down his death register entry which not only described him as a Captain in the RASC but that he had died on 5 February 1942 in the Bangour Hospital in Broxburn which was still a military hospital at the time.
Pat roped me in to try to find any supporting evidence which given his name, GEORGE JAMES WELLWWWOOD MONCREIFF, should have been easy but his birth was indexed as Moncrieff and his death as Moncreiff.
We did eventually find an entry in the London Gazette where on 13 October 1939 Supplement:34709 Page:6936
ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lts. 2nd Sept. 1939:—
Dvr. George James Wellwood MONCREIFF (102108).
and a death notice in The Scotman on 7/2/1942 p.8 [Saturday]
Deaths on Active Service Notice
At military hospital on 5th February 1942, Captain GEORGE JAMES WELLWOOD MONCREIFF, RASC only son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Moncreiff (present address Drum Lodge, Largo, Fife) (No mourning;, no flowers) Service at Crematorium, Warriston Road, Edinburgh on Monday, at 12 o'clock.
[Make what you will about "no mourning"]
Terry Denham (In From the Cold Project) has taken the case and found some additional material but Pat and I can't help feeling that there is a "story" behind these bare facts, so we will await the outcome. _________________ Ken

Scotland's People were ideal for Capt Moncrieff's birth and death cert etc..
I hear from my friend Griselda Fyfe that Capt Moncrieff attended EDINBURGH ACADEMY but must have moved on to another school possibly in England for his final years of education . He's not listed on the Edinburgh Academy WW2 war memorial ..
Ive just heard back from Lt Col Andrew Campbell , Secretary of the New Club Edinburgh re the name on their war memorial of Capt Moncrieff RASC and he will get back tome in due course ,
I hear from Terry Denham that he has obtained a copy of the Cremation certificate from Edinburgh on Capt Moncrieff .
Also further info from Griselda Fyfe informing that Capt Moncrieff is listed on the Burkes Peerage under BARON MONCRIEFF .
