|
|
I've been out of the country for a few weeks but I noticed a message from Photobucket in my email and have just got round to dealing with it. All of my photos are unviewable on our forum. I'm not disposed to pay $400 pa and will download my photos. However this highlights a problem that I have thought about for many of the digital resources I use ie what happens to all my material when I'm no longer here (kicked the "Photobucket!!). Surely the organisation needs some centralised storage for all the material we have which can be under the control of the administrators. When I'm gone, my children will have a look at my computer and simply delete that which they are not interested in and my hobbies will be one of them. Is there space on our server for all our photos to be archived there? If photobucket are going down the payment road then it won't be long before the rest do too.
Cheers,

Do I detect a hint of panic?????

Aye, Right!
(the only case where two positives do make a negative!)

The lost photos make the site look odd. Where there are no lists of names it make it so much harder to do any research. _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |

don't forget to log in to your photobucket account from time to time or it will be deleted entirely. At least while it is there you can access your account.
Anyone else reading this................I am sure that if you email the poster of the photos, they will be happy to forward you a copy.

Looks like my photos from photobucket have gone. Is there a plan?

Thanks, Ken.
Still happy to help if I can. It would definitely be a shame if we lost all those photos.

Looks like they have been forced into a change of heart - now only $100 per person and not $399. Reading the latest, do you think we could get away with one annual fee for SMRG?

On another thought, I just came across a site I had not seen before, tinypic.com, it's free and here is my test photo..............
seems to be quite easy to use - perhaps this is the solution to our problems?
(the article is from today's Galloway News by the way)

Well that was a very short lived idea. Apparently tinypic is owned by photobucket. I got an email this morning saying that my tinypic account would be disabled in 30 days and suggesting I pay the $99 to run a Photobucket account - baah!

Photophucket are getting worried.
Have you noticed that their message has been enlarged and really spoils the posts.
I'm going to have to amend my posts to delete the logo of this bunch of money grabbing ...............................

Today I can see all the photos again (not just my own) so has Photobucket had a change of heart or will we lose them again do you think?
(I never paid them a penny by the way)

Thanks for that info Mark.
So only a short term fix then. Still never mind our own solution must be in place soon? _________________ Ken |
