I don't have a clue what rank(s) this man was prior to being 2nd Lt., R.F.A.

The regiments were Queen's Own Royal Glasgow Yeomanry and 4th Reserve Regiment(?) of Cavalry and if I knew what the ranks were, I could list them in order, but I'm struggling!!

His entry on CWGC is as follows:
Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery
Date of Death: 2nd December 1919
Commemorated: Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton

Other bits and pieces I've found for him are:

London Gazette, 11th September 1917, Supplement 30280, Page 9439
War Office, 12th September 1917. Territorial Force
The undermentioned, from Officer Cadet units, to be 2nd Lieutenants:
Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery, 12th August 1917: David Thomson Simpson

Glasgow Herald, 12th December 1919. ‘Deaths on Service’
Simpson. At sea on 2nd December on board H.M. troopship Malwa on active service, David Thompson Simpson, Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery (Territorial), elder son of the late David Simpson, Craigend, 33 Westercraigs, Dennistoun.

Barony Church Memorial (now Barony Hall, John Anderson Campus, Strathclyde University):
David Thomson Simpson

Whitehill Higher Grade School Memorial: David Thomson Simpson

Glasgow Roll of Honour: David Thompson Simpson, Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery, Craigend, Dennistoun

Friends of Glasgow Necropolis Roll of Honour: Lieutenant David Thomson Simpson, Royal Field Artillery, Date of Death 2nd December 1919, age 35. Named on Family Gravestone in Compartment Petra

I also found the family living at Westercraigs/Westercraigs Street in 1891 & 1901

Anne - I think the ranks are QMS and SQMS as in Quartermaster Sergeant and Squadron QMS.
The only other bit is "No R/S O/S" = No Ranking Service Overseas.

Thanks Ken.

I can clearly see what I thought was a '2' as a 'Q' now that you've pointed it out!

What does 'No Ranking Service Overseas' mean? Would it mean that he did serve overseas but ......?

Annie - Sorry I should have explained. He went to India as a officer.
His service as a QMS would have been in the UK. ("in the ranks")

From memory, he was only awarded a British War Medal as he didn't serve on a fighting front.
