Jane Edington McClymont is commemorated on Dunblane War Memorial, Perthshire.

She was a V.A.D. Nurse and died of influenza and broncho pnemonia at Bangour War Hospital, Edinburgh on 13th February, 1919.

Although a civilian nurse Lothian Health Services Archives have produced the minutes of the Board of Control from 5th April, 1915 which shows that the hospital was set aside as a military hospital run by the War Office.

The following is an extract in an e-mail from Terry Denham

"The criteria for VADs has only recently been revised and we are in uncharted waters at the moment. The revision being that those VADs contracted to the War Office are to be treated under the same criteria as military personnel (ie death anywhere of any reason qualifies) instead of only those serving with the military overseas.

To work in a military hospital, VADs had to be contracted to the WO so the status of the hospital becomes important (many ‘war hospitals’ were actually civilian run). However, no case under the revised rules has come to fruition one way or the other yet so we don’t know NAM’s stance on the topic. We have a couple of cases in the system though".

Again a lot of work and research has gone into this case and hoping for a positive outcome but difficult to call.
