Simply South African Infantry or 'Royal' South African Infantry?
Maybe a stupid question but I'd appreciate which is correct.
Thanks,

Without Royal Anne. I don't think any South African units were prefixed Royal.

Thanks Adam.
I didn't think there was a 'Royal', but always best checking.

Anne - I think the memories of the South African (Boer) War were too fresh to allow words like Royal to be used.
Just to confuse things more, the 4 Infantry Units which made up the Brigade sent to the Western Front were called Regiments rather than Battalions.
The 4th Regiment was also known as the Transvaal Scottish and are usually included on the Scottish National War Memorial.
There's a real good (and short) history here:

Thanks Ken.
Sometimes the more you read to try and find things, the more you become confused.
Or maybe that's just me!!
