Stuart Rankin of the G&SW Railway Association has sent it to me with the following notes:
The caption was 'Marching from the Jt [Joint] Station, 1915'.

'Joint' meant a station of joint ownership/operation, e.g. Aberdeen and Dundee Tay Bridge; Perth was owned by the Caledonian but other companies e.g. the North British and Highland exercised running powers, so it was loosely called Perth General rather than Joint. Aberdeen was always called 'The Jint' as the Great North of Scotland used several platforms as terminal and through lines, with actual ownership by the Caledonian; I could check that; but people who know Aberdeen definitely say it is not Aberdeen, and I am sure they are correct.

It may be in Ayrshire (Kilmarnock????)
Ideas welcome.

It's difficult to make out a badge but if this was taken in Scotland and these men are volunteers then it will be a corps as the infantry units would be wearing glengarries. These men are RGA, RFA, RE, RAMC or ASC.

A clue to the location - or ruling out locations - may be the hill in the background. I don't think the hills are that close to Kilmarnock? That factory in the background has probably been flattened now too.

A stab in the dark but it may be the road between Bonnybridge & High Bonnybridge with Campsie Fells in background looking westerly direction. Canal would be on photographer's left. Absolutely no reference for that, just a hunch. Bonnybridge railway closed in 1930.

I don't know if the Campsies would be that near at Bonnybridge though. I've driven through it and I think that the hills are further away and I remember Bonnybridge itself being more hilly!

What about Perth? It was a joint station and there are hills around Perth. Could that be Craigie Hill in the background? We have the Perth station memorial recorded and it uses General and Joint in the description http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1429

Maybe we need a list of Joint stations in a town big enough to have a factory like you can see in the background and hills nearby
