On the KOSB panels of the Dumfries War Memorial is Pte. Daniel Mulloy.
Stuart ("stewartry") has found the following in the Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser 25/08/1916, 4D:
As reported in our issue of last week, an invalided soldier named Daniel Molloy met with a somewhat tragic end on the previous day in Kirkcudbright. About 11 o’clock in the forenoon Molloy was seized with an epileptic fit in St. Mary Street, and was removed to the Cottage Hospital, where he expired about 3 o’clock. From papers found in the man’s possession it appeared that he belonged to Dumfries. He was 36 years of age and unmarried. Deceased was an old soldier, and served with the K.O.S.B.s in the Boer War. On the outbreak of present hostilities he joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers, and went to France in March of last year. He sustained a severe wound in the head at the battle of Loos on 25th September last, and after a time in hospital in France he was removed to hospital at Chatham in January, and was ultimately discharged in April last. A brother, Private Hugh Molloy, is at present serving in France with another battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.

He was Private 7869 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers and was discharged due to his wounds on 4 April 1916 and awarded a Silver War Badge (No.508018)
He died in the Kirkcudbright Cottage Hospital on 17 August 1916 and both his death certificate and an RCE refer to a severe head wound and that he was wounded in action.

He is not named on the CWGC Register and Terry Denham of the In From The Cold Project is progressing this case, but I have still to identify his burial place.

Daniel was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Dumfries on Monday 21 August 1916.
This may create a bit of a problem as this cemetery was closed in the 1920s
(see http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/scottishwargraves-ftopic1380.html)
and tracking down an official burial record is proving difficult.
Records are not held be the council but by the church and I am in touch with them.

Daniel's name was added to the Debt of Honour Register today.

MULLOY, DANIEL.
Rank:Private
Service Number: 7869
Date of Death:17/08/1916
Age:35
Regiment/Service:Royal Scots Fusiliers 1st Bn.
Panel Reference:
Memorial:UNITED KINGDOM BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
Additional Information:Son of Hugh and Bridget Mulloy

Sadly I have had no luck in tracking down his burial record.
Neither the Council Cemetery Office nor the Archives hold any records for this burial ground and any church records may have been lost in a fire back in the 1960's. Searches by the church secretary and by staff at the Catholic Church Archives in Edinburgh found nothing.
