This memorial was originally raised for the adherents of Gartmore U.F. Church;
THE PEOPLE'S JOURNAL: 25.03.1922
GARTMORE
TO KEEP THEIR MEMORY GREEN
Two brass mural tablets were unveiled in the U.F. Church on Sunday, bearing the following inscriptions:-
"In affectionate memory of Rev. Malcolm M'Lean, born 1839, died 1920. For 56 years minister of this congregation; an earnest preacher, a faithful pastor, a kind friend. 'He being dead yet speaketh'".
"In grateful remembrance of the men of this congregation who served in the Great War, 1914-1918. And of Peter G. MacFarlane, David M'Lachlan, Wm. M'Laren, Wm. M'Neil, John Thomson, who laid down their lives for their country and for us. Faithful unto death".
The service was conducted by Rev. John Beveridge, B.D., M.B.E., minister of the church, assisted by Rev. J. Christie Johnston and Lieut.-Col. Rev. T. L. Beveridge, Gold Coast. The unveiling was done was Mrs M'Lean and Miss Montgomery. In the evening the Rev. T. L. Beveridge gave an address on "What Christianity has done for the Gold Coast". |

The Rev. T. L. Beveridge lost his own son during WW2.

Thomas M. Beveridge, Captain, Southern Rhodesian Medical Corps, son of the Rev. T. L. Beveridge and Mrs. Beveridge, 116 Grange Loan, Edinburgh, attended Watson's from 1915 to 1924. Graduating M.B., Ch.B. at Edinburgh University in 1929, he spent five years at Chitambo, N. Rhodesia, with the Livingstonia Mission of the Church of Scotland, having gained the D.P.H. Diploma at Glasgow University in 1936. In 1937 he became Assistant Health Officer to the Salisbury (S. Rhodesia) Municipality. Joining up at the outbreak of war, he died in Salisbury on 12th February 1944.
