Anne - I don't think he ever served in the military.
I suspect his role at Woolwich was as a civilian manager.
Part of his obit. reads
He subsequently obtained the B.Sc. degree of the University of Glasgow, [that was in 1915] and went to Woolwich Arsenal, where he continued for about a year and a half, latterly acting as night superintendent in a large new fuse factory.
His health having failed, he went abroad and died at Bloemfontein on 19th May 1917, in his twenty-seventh year.

Thanks for the link I also found in Ancestry other info he also worked of Geo Brown & Co; Greenock.
The UK Engineer info was sometimes hard to find as his name had been wrongly spelt.
His father worked at James Abrtnethy, Ferryhill, Aberdeen working there 44 years until he retired. _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |
