There is a Glenburn Street in Port Glasgow, which is just along the road from Greenock.

Glasgow isn't in Stirlingshire - it's Lanarkshire - not anywhere near where the county borders are.

I had a look on various 'Blitz' sites but couldn't immediately find anyone remotely matching Agnes.

"News has been received of the death of a Larbert man at the front in the person of Sergeant Alexander Hill, Royal Garrison Artillery, who was killed in action on February 25 near Ypres. Sergeant Hill, who was in the regulars, was 36 years if age, and had just returned to the front after spending five days furlough with his wife and children. Two brothers of the Sergeant are also with the colours, one in the Cameron Highlanders and the other in the Royal Field Artillery."

If you have a we look at the link on the above thread (War Graves Site), I also though this may have been his brother, but there was another James Hill died/killed on the same day and at the time I couldn't find anything to prove/disprove anything.

I had a wee look on Scotlands People and there was only a service return for the James Hill of the R.F.A. which suggests (but proves nothing) that the man in the Inniskilling Fusiliers wasn't born in Scotland. Also James is listed as 36 on the war return, a close match to the family headstone.

So I think it's safe to say 25598 Gunner James Hill of the R.F.A. is his brother. He was killed in action aged 36.

"Information has been received by his father, who resides at Munro Street, Stenhousemuir, Larbert, of the death of Private Andrew Chesney, B Company, 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (Territorials). The first intimation came to hand in the form of a letter form Sergeant Munro, of B Company, to the lads relatives, and subsequently a letter was received from Lieutenant Sheriff stating that Private Chesney had been shot through the cheek by a German sniper on March 29, death being almost instantaneous. Private Chesney, who was 21 years of age, was formerly employed as an apprentice engineer with the Carron Company, Falkirk."

"Private Francis Morrison Grant, 1st Gordon Highlanders, who resided in Larbert, has been killed. In a letter to his parents announcing his death, Second Lieutenant Thoms states that Private Grant was one of the finest soldiers in his platoon. He adds that he was killed instantaneously on 23rd inst. by a rifle bullet "while in the execution of his duties under my command in a detached portion of the trenches. Your son was a man far and away above the usual run of soldiers, whose character, example, and deportment made him the friend of and an object lesson to all of us of whatever rank who had the good fortune to know him." Private Grant, who was about 24 years of age, was formerly employed as a fitter with Messrs Dobbie, Forbes and Co., Ironfounders, Larbert. He joined the 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders in September, and was subsequently transferred to the 1st Battalion, with which he went to the front in January."

The above John George Sherriff is commemorated on a Family Plaque in Larbert Old Parish Churchyard.

"On Saturday the funeral took place, with military honours, to Stenhousemuir Cemetery, of Private David Wilson, 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (Territorials), who died in hospital at Leicester on Thursday from wounds received in action on April 24. The remains were conveyed from Wilson's fathers residence, Mitchell's Land, Stenhousemuir, to the cemetery on a gun carriage, which was oreceeded by pipes of the 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders from Alloa and followed by a firing party from the same battalion. Members of Larbert & District Volunteer Training Corps, and a Boys Brigade detatchment. At the graveside three volleys were fired, and the "Last Post" was sounded". Private Wilson, who was 19 years of age, joined the Territorials in September and went to the front in December. Before the war he was employed at Plean Colliery and prior to that worked with Carron Company."
