Hi Pals
I have a subject im trying to research.
His name is Major James Craik Taylor Medical Officer for the 1/4th RSF. Died from wounds on the 8th June 1915 at Gallipoli

TAYLOR, JAMES CRAIK
Rank: Major
Date of Death: 08/06/1915
Age: 42
Regiment/Service: Royal Army Medical Corps attd. 4th Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers Grave Reference: A. 13.
Cemetery:LANCASHIRE LANDING CEMETERY
Additional Information:Son of James Taylor, Governor of Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow. and Jane Craik Taylor, of Ayr; husband of Agnes W. Taylor, of 12, Newlands Park, Newlands, Glasgow.

He was the first casualty of the 52nd Lowland Division on Gallipoli, wounded from shelling the night they landed at Cape Helles on the 6/7th June. Died from wounds 8th June.

He isn't on the Ayr memorial. Therefore as it says his wife resided at Newlands, Glasgow what local civic memorial would he be likely to be on?

Regards
James

James - possibly he is on the Pollokshaws WM. http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2755&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

The name has been transcribed as James G Taylor, but it could well be James C.
As far as I'm aware this is the only civil memorial in this area of Glasgow.

He is named on the High School of Glasgow Memorial and on the Glasgow University Memorial.
There is a brief but detailed biog. and a photo at
http://www.universitystory.gla.ac.uk/ww1-biography/?id=3233

He is not named on the Barlinnie Prison memorial.

Hi Kenneth

Thanks for that, apologies for late reply I locked myself out of my account again. Rolling Eyes All sorted now. Wink

Today/tomorrow is actually the 100th anniversary to the 52nd Lowland Division landing's on the peninsula. The vanguard of the Div will be the 1/4th RSF of whom Major Taylor is attached, 1/5th RSF and 1/5th KOSB. These leading Battalions of the Div. will go ashore and make their way to the "Rest Camp", on the inner, north eastern slopes of Cape Helles, where intermittent shelling , daily "plop plop" as the men called it, will cause hundreds if not thousands of casualties on that small front. Major Taylor will become such a casualty.
Im doing a timeline on my Facebook page describing events as best I can from a few sources like SDGW, CWHC, Ray Westlakes - Regiments on Gallipoli and local newspaper articles.
You can check it out here

Hope you dont mind the plug.
Regards
James

Kenneth
I just noticed the link. That picture of the original grave marker is an absolute gem. Thanks for that.
