This beautiful picture is displayed in the Oban War and Peace Museum. It was difficult to photograph due to the pale colour of the print and the lights reflecting off the glass.

There a little puzzle about Binnie and Stott.
SDGW shows Binnie as enlisting in Oban (but no birth or residence details) with the No:7484. His medal card has 9/7484.
SDGW shows Stott as enlisting Sunderland and resident in Bradford with the No:325836. his medal card has 9/7483 and 325836.
(The date of death was right in the middle of Territorial renumbering)

So it looks as though they enlisted together, served together, died together and were buried together, but what's the Oban/Bradford connection????

p.s. Binnie is not on the SNWM.

Thanks again Ken for your comments. I'm wondering if the two mothers were sisters or related in some other way. Tried to search for clues but got "stuck".

Can you tell me what SDGW stands for, please. Can't find my abbreviations list!

Regards
Morag

Sorry Morag, I must stop using FLA's Smile

SDGW = Soldiers who Died in the Great War.

"In 1921 His Majesty's Stationery Office published, on behalf of and by authority of the War Office, two lists of those who died during the Great War. One volume, packed with minute typescript, gave the basic details of nearly 42,000 officer casualties. It required an additional 80 volumes to list all the 'other ranks' who gave their lives in a war that claimed a daily average of over 450 British Army fatalities."

It's now available (for a fee) on-line via various sites.
