The name David E. Crosbie is on the Bellahouston Church memorial in Ibrox Parish Church.

The Glasgow RoH has: CROSBIE David E Private London Regiment - London Scottish 1 Kirkwood Street Bellahouston.

David Eglington Crosbie enlisted on 13 December 1915 in the 14th London Regiment (London Scottish) as Private 514130.
He was discharged on 12 April 1917 due to wounds and was issued with a Silver War Badge (no.157841) on 18 April 1917.

I cannot trace a death in the UK.

Can you please look for a Service file, Pension Record, burial for this man?

Ken,

There is a service record on Find My Past. I will download the images and email them to you.

Service record shows a gunshot wound to the right knee on 4/10/16. I think there are notes stating he was also wounded in the arm twice (not sure about that, though)

Discharged at home 12/4/17.

The medals were claimed by his mother in 1922, and the form stated he died after discharge.

Solved this one, and unfortunately he does not qualify.

Crosbie was discharged due to his wounds. Later in 1917 he boarded the ship "Nyanza" bound for India but during the voyage he was drowned through enemy action - the ship was torpedoed by U53, with 49 casualties.

As he was a civilian at the time he does not qualify - there is no civilian Roll of Honour for WW1 like there is for WW2.

David - Thanks for all your help and research with this man.

He originally enlisted in the 9th HLI (the Glasgow Highlanders) before being transferred (like many others) to the London Scottish.
He must have thought he was well out of it Sad

Happy to help, Ken. I just wish there had been a more positive outcome from the research, but I suppose you can't win them all.
