Gordon Highlanders on St. Mary Immaculate Church, Pollokshaws, Memorial

Private James Monaghan Gordon Highlanders 1st/7th Bn
Service No: S/40724 Date of Death: 23/04/1917
6 Coustonhill Street Pollokshaws, son of Mr Eccles and Mrs Agnes Monaghan. Aged about 20. Before he enlisted, he worked in a pawnbrokers.

Private James Rice Gordon Highlanders 1st Bn.
Service No: S/9783 Date of Death: 23/08/1918
Evening Times 12/10/18 p3 Pte. James Rice, late of the American Army (killed). His wife resides at 25 Wodrow Street, Pollokshaws.

Both of these names are also on the Pollokshaws Memorial at the burgh hall.

Both memorials also list a Private Peter McDermott, whom I have been unable to trace. The online City of Glasgow Roll of Honour has a Private Peter McDermott, Gordon Highlanders, 22 Duncan St, Pollokshaws, but I have found no trace of this on SNWM or CWGC rolls.

Finally (a possible)
Private John McGarry Gordon Highlanders 8th/10th Bn.
Service No: 1390 Date of Death: 01/08/1917
SNWM lists two John McGarrys. This one has a place of birth, Mount Florida, and an address in the Gorbals area, both relatively close to, but certainly not within St Mary’s Parish, so I cannot be sure. His name is not on the Pollokshaws memorial.

I have posted on the Ballantrae, Ayrshire Civic Memorial thread a report on the death of Alexander Graham, Gordon Highlanders.

Also, while I was in Sheffield last week I had a look through the City's Roll of Honour and found the following Sheffield men who served with the Gordons and were killed. Unfortunately I was unable to identify which memorial they are on as there are dozens and there is no index:

Pte Frank Etwell 266653, died 4/10/1917
Pte Jim Gough 242309, died 22/5/1917
Sgt Joseph Henry Hawtin 7919, died 18/7/1916
Pte Arthur Wragg 41872, died 6/11/1918
Pte James Cumming 292604, died 23/4/1917

PS I was surprised by the extent of representation of Scottish Regiments on the city's Roll of Honour. If anyone wants me to search I can do on a future visit.
