|
|
In the 1990s St Giles cathedral had a major renovation. Prior to that time there were many laid up Regimental Colours, each with their own plaque fixed to the pillars below the relevant colours. Following the renovation, the colours were not replaced although the plaques remained in their original position. The colours with their associated plaques are listed individually on UKNIWM.
A small representative sample of colours were re-hung in one corner in the cathedral without identification and these will be posted separately when identified along with their plaques even though these are now some distance from the colours they represent.
It is believed that the remaining colours were distributed to Regimental Museums and other places but my enquiries at the cathedral did not reveal any records of where they are now.
After discussion, we have decided to post all of the existing plaques here and remove them to separate posts once their corresponding colours are identified.

I think it's possible that, given some of the dates on these plaques that the flags fell apart (or maybe even turned to dust) when they were moved. |
