"Lieutenant C. Gordon MacDonald, 6th Scottish Rifles (T.F.) was killed in action in France on June 15. Lieutenant was a son of the late Mr E.E. MacDonald, headmaster of Hillhead High School, and before joining the force was assistant minister at Hamilton. Writing from the front, the Rev. Mr McGibbon, chaplain to the regiment, says-"Our Battalion was put in the front of the attack, and Lieutenant MacDonald was in the foremost Company. He was very seriously wounded soon after they made the charge, and must have died almost immediately. The regiment has lost a valued officer, and i have lost a valued friend and assistant.". Lieutenant MacDonald's brother is serving wiith the Canadians in France, and his widowed mother, for whom there is widespread sympathy, resides at Bearsden."
