|A recent publication done by the ST ANDREWS PRESERVATION TRUST MUSEUM in St Andrews - " St Andrews & The Great War" an exhibition marking the Centenary year of the Great War 1914-2014 and on page 9 of their booklet publication is has
LOCAL BUSINESSES :
GILLESPIE & SCOTT :
Local architects firm GILLESPIE & SCOTT was established in St Andrews in 1895, through the partnership between James Ross Gillespie (1854- 1914) and James Scott (1861 - 1944) . The firm continued to operate though out the First World War , however ten of the firm's workers , including JAMES GILLESPIE'S SON JAMES GILLESPIE Junior (pictured centre in the roll of honour from 1915 ) signed up in the early stages of the War . JAMES junior was set to succeed his father in the family business , however he was KILLED AT THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME in 1916. The Business was continued by James Scott.
Photograph in this publication by the St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum shows the Gillespie & Scott Roll of Honour 1915 with NINE named staff with one in the Centre of the Roll of Honour .
I don't know if the firm Gillespie & Scott architects are still in existence in St Andrews and they have this Roll of Honour for 1915 or it is held else where ..
