I have listed this under Tinwald because that is how it is named on UKNIWM and that is also written on the memorial, although it is actually located at a small hamlet called Amisfield.

UKNIWM Ref: 5864

OS Map Ref: NY 001 823 (note that this is incorrect on UKNIWM)

I tried to find Seaman David Brown of the 'Royal Edward' in the SNWM and CWGC databases but couldn't.

Assuming he was one of the nearly 1000 men lost when the SS 'Royal Edward' was sunk in 1915 in the Aegean Sea then I would think he should be listed under Merchant Navy or RNR.

Looking up the SNWM for the date the ship sank, 13th August 1915, gives us this entry though.

Surname BROWN
Firstname David Anderson
Service Number 16338
Date Death 13/08/1915
Decoration
Place of birth Tinwald Dumfries
Other 1st Bn.
SNWM roll THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS
Rank Pte
Theatre of death At Sea.

This must be the same man but it is strange he is listed as a seaman!

Here is Jim McGinlay's transcription of the other names on this memorial as well
