Hello,
Broxburn Band Hall, West Lothian has a memorial tablet to the six bandsmen who lost their lives. Interestingly, the wording above the names gives the following info:
Erected by The Members of 2/4 Royal Scots Band and Friends of Coggeshall, Essex To The Memory of Bandsmen Who Fell in Action in France.
The Band was at Coggeshall from March 1916 to January 1917. I contacted Coggeshall Museum, however the curator didn't know of this memorial. Anyway, this got me thinking. Are there any other memorials in Band Halls to 2/4 Royal Scots Band from other band members and Friends of Coggeshall? Surely, Broxburn wouldn't have been an isolated case. The unveiling of the tablet was in April 1917 with a few men and then others were added at a later date. I am hoping to have a look at the local newspaper this week to see if any information is given in the text re the unveiling.
Moderators: This memorial tablet isn't too legible. I was told the present Broxburn Band is in the process of trying to restore. Do you want me to post a photograph anyway, and then post again when the tablet is restored? I already have information on the men.

Mags, feel free to post a photo as it is now, and we can then see the completed restoration later. |
