Yes it really is sunny this morning! I have been involved in getting funding to have our BB War Memorial Lamp restored. The lamp is in the grounds of Leith St Andrew's Church, Easter Road, Edinburgh. We were delighted to be sucessful with our application to the Centenary War Memorial Fund and restoration in now well underway. I have been researching the men who are commemorated on the memorial with a view to making up a memorial book. I came across this site as a result of some of my searching. I have some photos of the many war memorials in our Church I would like to add. They are from various Leith Churches as a result of unions over the years. Should I start a new topic or should I email to someone for approval first?

There are church memorial places on this site and you can look for your area firstly.
Even as a poster of many years posting pictures is hard for me...

Hi and welcome.
It might be an idea to list the memorials, where they came from and where they are now and then we can advise how to show them.
I do look forward to seeing them as there isn't a Leith War Memorial with names (as far as I'm aware Confused )

By any chance does this man appear on any of your church memorials?

CHRISTOPHER WRIGHT McRITCHIE – Rifleman (S/7136) 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Age 26.
Christopher was born in 1889 in Leith, Edinburgh, the son of Thomas Chilcott McRitchie and of Margaret Rowand (Wright) McRitchie of Lochend Road, Leith.

And well done on your fund raising for the BB Lamp Post Very Happy

Hello and welcome. Thanks to Andrew Grant we have quite a few Leith church memorials on the site already. You should check the Edinburgh Church section first to see of we already have it posted.

Great news about the lamp.

Thanks for the welcome. The memorials we have in our Church are:

St Andrew's Place Church - 1st and 2nd World War

St Thomas, Mill Lane, 1st World War

Junction Road Church - 1st World War

BB Roll of honour - from Junction Road Church

South Leith UF - 1st World War

Claremont Church - 2nd World War

3rd Leith BB War Memorial - I have photos of the unveiling ceremony of this in 1929 which are really interesting.

The first four of these have been moved to our Church following unions. South Leith UF and Claremont are previous names for the current building.

We also have the three Communion chairs which are the WW2 memorial for Junction Road Church. Unfortunately, I have no idea what happened to the lectern that was the WW2 memorial for St THomas but it hasn't made its way to our building.

I will have a look for Christopher McRitchie tomorrow when I'm in the Church but doesn't ring a bell. He's definitely not the BB memorial.

I've had a check to see what we've got.

St Thomas, Mill Lane, 1st World War:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5066

Junction Road Church - 1st World War:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5067

3rd Leith BB War Memorial:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=3395

Which means we don't have the following memorials and would be delighted if you could provide them:

St Andrew's Place Church - 1st and 2nd World War
South Leith UF - 1st World War
Claremont Church - 2nd World War
Junction Road Church - 2nd World War

We should record the St Thomas' lectern here as lost for the time being but hopefully it will turn up.

If you have photos of the Boys Brigade memorial unveiling that would be good to see. As would the background infomation about the funding application.

There is information here about how to post photos:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=470

Kind regards

Adam

I have photos of all these memorials but think I'll try to get better shots with my better camera tomorrow. I know how to add from Photobucket so that'll be fine - I can do new threads for the new ones.

Do you want me to start a new thread about the restoration of the BB Memorial or just include under the present thread? Should I include the unveiling photos there too or is there a separate section?

The additional information on the BB Memorial would be added to the existing thread - the general rule is one memorial, one thread.

I have now added all the memorials we have which weren't already on this site. The one I thought was the Junction Road BB roll of honour was in fact the roll of honour for the Church.

Kenneth Morrison: had a look at all the memorials but no McRitchie I'm afraid.
