It could be he is, since his family ( or regiment) would have had to cover the costs of his being returned to the Falkirk area.
We are checking. _________________ Jim

I have been contaced by a Peter Brown who confirms the family connection between the two Mathews and advises that he very much appreciates the efforts of those involved in this thread and the details that have been uncovered here.
Quote: | The details for both Matthews that your group have posted have greatly helped me fill in certain blanks in my research, and I will keep an eye out for any further information that you or your friends may uncover. I would be obliged if you could you pass on my thanks to your friends for the work that they have carried out.

He confirms that Matthew who died at Pirbright was his grandfather's brother and that Matthew the elder was that mans uncle.
I have asked Peter if he can shed light on the burial location. _________________ Jim

It looks like Jim submitted this man to IFCP before he took ill as this man has now been commemorated but without family or burial details confirmed.
