Achfary Estate War Memorial, Glencoul, Assynt
Location: Overlooking Loch Glencoul
OS REf: NC 271 304

One of the most remote memorials in Scotland, this memorial is to two brothers who had worked on the Duke of Westminster's Estate at Glencoul. You have to get someone to take you by boat from Kylesku down the sea loch to get there.

Glencoul falls within the Parish of Assynt but most of the Estate is in Edrachillis and the brothers are also listed on the Scourie Memorial rather than the Assynt one at Lochinver.

I haven't visited this memorial it is so remote, so no images I'm afraid. I don't believe it is in very good condition from correspondence I've had with a relative of the Elliots. There is a wall to protect it from the sheep but not the elements. There are the two men listed.

ELLIOT , Alister , Lance Corporal , 9th Bn Highland Light Infantry
ELLIOT , William , Corporal 7th Bn Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders

I'm delighted to say Mr Peter Aikman has visited this very remote memorial and has provided a couple of images.
