As part of Wigtown's Spring Festival (Words, Wisdom, Whisky), Professor Ted Cowan will argue that Robert's experience of the war inspired some of his finest work and this aspect has been overlooked. His collection "Rhymes of Red Cross Man" came out during the Battle of the Somme; one of the first in the field and one which used many images and metaphors which have now become so familiar as to rate as cliches.
Venue: The Bookshop, Wigtown.
