Woodside Senior Secondary School
The original school was located at the junction of Woodlands Road and Eldon Street, Glasgow. Part of the building is now home to the STUC and the other part to The Old Schoolhouse Restaurant.
Woodside Secondary School opened in September 1882 and closed on June 30th 1999. In 117 years more than 70,000 pupils passed through these halls of learning, many going on to further education and University. ADDISON, JOHN E. Sergeant, RAF. Air Gunner, 487 Squadron, Methwold, Norfolk. Missing on bombing raid when Ventura aircraft encountered enemy aircraft near Amsterdam, the target area, 3/5/43. Whole crew reported killed in official German statement to the International Red Cross. Buried in Amsterdam.

AIKEN, ALEXANDER C., MBE. Lieutenant-Commander, RN. Served in RASC and Royal Marines in 1914-18 War. In BLue Funnel Line before the war, when his ship, the Glenearn, was requisitioned by the Admiralty as an auxiliary cruiser. Awarded MBE for services at the evacuation of Crete. Transferred to Prince Baudouin, in which he carried American Rangers to France on D-Day, and took part in the landings in the south of France. Transferred to Pacific on the Glenearn, where he met his death (April 1945), following a fire on board, by being caught in an explosion when he went down to shut off the petrol tanks. Buried at Lae, New Guinea.

APPI, STEPHEN. Flight Sergeant (observer), RAF. Killed with the rest of the crew when Wellington bomber crashed on return from a flight, 11/12/42. Buried at Heston with his brother Frank (Chino), who was killed in a flying accident before the war.
