Hi Folks
Neilston after nearly 100 years has a war memorial, This is a temporary installation built by one of the association members to mark where we will build next year. When we start the build this cross will be moved to Neilston cemetery to mark the grave of the parents of one of our soldiers that has no stone or memorial. Our artist Tom McKendrick is working on the designs for the new memorial to be stated next year. Our fundraising has been well supported by the Villagers and we should have inexcess of £50,000 for christmas to get the project started.
Cheers Matt

I've just seen that it's underway; congratulations on a good campaign. It's incredible - not to say shameful - that, with 210 men killed from the local area in WW1, Neilston didn't have a memorial back in the 1920s.

Keep us posted, please.

Frank

The official unveiling of the Neilston War Memorial and Solemn Dedication Ceremony will take place on the November 7 at 2.30pm.

The Neilston War Memorial Garden is situated next to St Thomas’s Church on Neilston Main Street.

The war memorial displays, on four bronze plaques, the names, rank and date of death of all 217 service personnel from the village and district who have died in service since World War One.

Eight regimental badges, also cast in bronze, will run along the base of the memorial while a unique Spinner’s Cross, designed by celebrated war artist Tom McKendrick, provides a strong focal point to the finished memorial.
