There is also a Hawick link to his place of employment in London but at the moment I can't remember what it was. Rolling Eyes

Stephen,
The Hawick link was that another Hawick man, Robert Purdom, also worked for that firm:
He was employed at Nicholsons, St.Pauls Churchyard, London.
Robert was killed in the war.

Derek, I have a bit of information on my grandfather who was a Hawick man, both some pictures of him with a colleague (maybe when they signed up) and also when he was sent home after a bad injury to his leg.

Do you collect info on Hawick history, if I'm happy to send information to you.

Stephen,
I'd bite your hand off for any info regarding Hawick and the Great War.

We are visiting the area next weekend. I have seen reports that Cavers Church is in a bad state of repair.

Is the church still open and the role of homnour on display?

Cavers is in fine state of repair - you're confusing it with the old one which is a ruin.
The church is usually locked so either turn up on a Sunday morning or see if you can find out who holds a key off Google etc.
