He has an interesting story.
According to the book Brodick- Arran and the Great War by James C Inglis
George Gouldthorpe was, at the time he enlisted(7/9/1914), working as the porter and postman at Brodick Castle. Whilst serving in the Navy, prior to arriving in Brodick, he took part in the Boxer revolution.
I am currently trying to find out all I can about Arran and the men who left here to fight, and the women who served as nurses, so if anyone has any info I would be pleased to here about it. |
