I've seen a few references online to this thesis:

BELL, Gilbert Torrance. Monuments to the fallen: Scottish war memorials of the Great War unpublished Ph.D. thesis, University of Strathclyde, 1993.

Has anyone read it? It's 20 years old now and I'd be interested to know if its findings then are still relevant given that we've now recorded over 5,000 Scotttish war memorials and rolls of honour.
